The Love and Lies of Rukhsana Ali

 A thing that surprised me in my book is that when Rukhsana escapes before her wedding, no one suspected anything. Everyone thought she was just a little late until a few hours into the wedding. When Rukhsana was talking to her mom before her mom left to go help set up the wedding, her mom did not suspect a thing and believed that she would show up. Even though last time Rukhsana was left alone she tried to escape. I feel like Rukhsana’s mom would have suspected her more if she were not too caught up in the wedding. Rokeya was in their house when Shaila and Rukhsana were there, and she did not suspect anything. I do not know how Rokeya did not hear Rukhsana leave, because she had to carry a heavy suitcase down the stairs and go through the front door. 

How I met Jesus 

One time when I was camping in Lancaster with Abby and my family, we decided to talk Kevin on a walk. When we were walking this guy came up and asked to pet Kevin, so I said yes. We started to walk away, and he followed us, he kept talking to us and he was bragging about his girlfriend of 2 days. We were going to head back because it looked like it was going to rain, and the guy said that it was not and that he was Jesus so he could tell the future. It eventually started to rain so we started to walk back to our camper, and he followed us. Jesus kept trying to convince us he could walk on water. We started to run back but Kevin was still a puppy, so he did not want to run so I had to carry him (Hes not a light dog), and Jesus offered to carry Kevin and we all said no. And that is how I met Jesus. Any time we saw him during the rest of the trip we would pretend we did not. 

   When I Was Young in My Room 

When I was young, in my room listening to music with my headphones , watching Kevin struggle to get his back paws on my bed, when I was young, I would build forts in my room around the projector on the ceiling, and watching movies in there all day. When I was young, I had tons of people over for my birthday, and three people would sleep on my bed, 1 person on each couch and 2 air mattress that would deflate by morning. I would sit in my room for hours playing with Penelope while she hoped around my room, my room was always enough, it still is 

 

My favourite winter activity is snowboarding, because it’s better than skiing and its fun .I snowboard all the time in the winter. I go at least 2 times a week. My snowboard is custom painted, the colour is a sage green that fades into white. Every year my family goes on a “ski weekend”. We rent a cabin a few hours away and we snowboard and ski the whole time. Out of all 7 of my siblings, only 2 of us ski. Snowboarding is top tier.  

Hawaii 

 

Have you ever wanted to hop on a plane and fly to a chain of rocky islands with your closest friends just to surf all day then go to sleep and do the same thing the next day and soak up the warm sun while staying in your bathing suit a 24/7. Well, I have always wanted to, that is why I am here to tell you about Hawaii. 

Hawaii is a chain of 132 rocky islands, the eight main islands are Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Niihau, and Kahoolawe. Honolulu, the largest city in Hawaii, is the capital of Hawaii. The highest point in Hawaii is 13,796 ft (about half the height of Mount Everest), in Mauna Kea. Tourism is the most useful and valuable industry in Hawaii. Hawaii is known for surfing; surfing is the most popular sport in Hawaii. Hawaii is 4,030 square miles (10,438 square miles (about the area of New Jersey) km) long, and it is still growing from the 5 active submarine volcanoes. 

Hawaii was created by 5 submarine volcanoes, that are all still active. Surfing was invented by the Polynesians. Surfing is part of the religion in Hawaii. From east to west Hawaii is the widest state in the United States of America. In 1900 Hawaii was formally became a part of the United States of America. The shape of Hawaii is roughly a triangle. The population of Hawaii in 2020 was 1.4 million, if you think about it that is a lot of people for a small island. In size Hawaii ranks 47 out of the 50 states in the United States of America. The Hawaiian language still has a strong existence. The Hawaiian alphabet consists of twelve letters, a,e,I,o,u,h,k,l,m,n,p, and w. 

The word aloha is a popular word in the Hawaiian language, “aloha” is used as a greeting and a goodbye. “The aloha state” is a common nickname for Hawaii because Hawaii is the only state that uses the word “aloha.” Hawaii is also known as “the big island.” People call Hawaii “the big island” because Hawaii is five times larger than the next largest island. The big pineapple is also known as Honolulu. Honolulu got the nickname “the big pineapple” because in Honolulu they harvest a lot of pineapple, and finally “paradise of the pacific” Hawaii got the nickname “paradise of the pacific” because of its enjoyable weather. 

Hawaii’s climate is mostly hot, like somewhere you want to go for a vacation. The average temperature in Hawaii is about twenty-four Celsius (seventy-five Fahrenheit) I would say that is the perfect temperature. The record temperature in Hawaii was thirty–eight Celsius (one hundred Fahrenheit) on 1931 April twenty seventh, and the record for the coldest day is –11 eleven Celsius (twelve Fahrenheit) in 1979 may seventeenth. Hawaii is sometimes humid. Hawaii gets on average 450 inches of rain a year. Hawaii has some dangerous weather like hurricanes, because of the hurricanes Hawaii does not have a lot of animals. 

Hawaii has the most threatened and endangered animals than other state in the United States of America. The reason Hawaii does not have many animals (specifically mammals) is because of the hot weather. There are lots of whales in the water around Hawaii. There are twelve varied species of whales in Hawaii. Some of Hawaii’s animals are imported from other countries (if that shows you how little animals they have in Hawaii). Hawaii does have a lot of plants though, to be exact there are 25,000 unique species and subspecies of plants. The Hawaiian flower is a Pau Aloalo (which is a yellow hibson). The Hawaiian bird is a Nene (which is a Hawaiian goose). 

That is why I have always wanted to go to Hawaii, not just to soak up the warm sun or to go just because someone famous went, but because of the people and the community. All my friends and family friends who have been to Hawaii have loved the community. The people in Hawaii are just so kind and sweet. Hawaii is the perfect place to go on vacation or even to live in. That is all I must tell you about Hawaii. I hope you learned lots and enjoyed my essay. 

The idea is better than the truth 

 I like the idea of winter 

 playing in the snow 

 going to the arena to play hockey and to go public skating 

 going snowboarding till your face starts to freeze 

 building forts in the snow then destroying them to build new ones to have snowball fights in 

 the many snows days  

And sledding at the Winchester hill all day 

But reality its 

-30 outside for 2 months straight  

And it is too cold to go outside  

The roads are covered in black ice  

The ground is covered in a wet slushie ice 

Its windy every day  

Freezing rain and hail 

Wet flour from people’s shoes bringing snow into the house 

Having to buy new snow gear  

 

 

I like the idea of school 

Getting to learn new things  

Meeting new people  

And making new friends 

Hanging out with friends  

Going outside for recess  

But it’s actually  

Waking up at 6 am  

Long bus rides  

Only 30 minutes to eat lunch  

Having to do lots of work 

Having to ask to go to the bathroom and the teachers saying no 

Wearing a mask all day  

And not being able to drink in class  

Not getting home till 3:30 

Having to sit on an uncomfortable chair all day 

Getting loads of homework  

And lots of assignments  

Introducing Luke 

Luke is my dog. He is a 6-year-old black lab. Luke has many nicknames, a few of them are Lukie, shmuke, boss and duke, I am not sure where most of them came from. He loves swimming in our pool, playing in the snow, chasing squirls and playing fetch. His favorite foods are 1: old fashion Timbits 2: spinach 3: popcorn. He also sleeps with a pillow and a blanket, so you could say Hes spoiled. Every Saturday we take him to Tims to get Timbits. And that’s Luke 🙂

 

What I want to be when I grow up 

When I grow up, I want to be a paramedic. I want to be this because Paramedics are healthcare heroes ready to save lives and because of a show that I watch one of the main characters is a paramedic and they inspired me to want to become a paramedic. I also find it interesting that Paramedics are the most highly qualified emergency medical responders, skilled and trained to deliver more care than basic level EMTs or other rescue personnel. There are three levels of a paramedic in Ontario: Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) and Critical Care Paramedic (CCP). That is why I want to be a paramedic. 

Candles…… I love candles, they smell good, cute as decorations, and are fun to play with. Candles come in many different shapes, sizes, and scents. Bath and body works is where I get my candles, I like to get my candles and bath and body works because they have a huge variety of scents. Some of the candles I have are hot cocoa, iced tea dragon fruit, and vanilla. I don’t know about you, but I personally like to play with candle wax (lol). If you’re someone like me (has pets in their room that smell) then candles will be very helpful to help with the smell. -liv 

Where I am from 

 

I am from dancing your heart out in the kitchen 

 while making dinner  

I am from 12 voices at a time  

At the dinner table  

While also trying to get the food first, 

Before anyone can get the good stuff 

 

I am from volleyball tournaments 

Every summer, in the backyard 

From awkward sibling photos 

And being late because we cannot find are shoes  

I am from a small school that is close to home  

But an hour-long bus ride 

 

I am from hanging out with friends, 

Every weekend  

And staying up till dawn 

I’m from going to the family farm to dirt bike  

For hours at a time  

From pumpkin carving every fall  

And cooking the seeds 

For a midnight snack 

I am from homemade baked beans by nana 

On every holiday  

I am from fields for miles and miles  

From beautiful sunsets just over the fields 

 

I am from the dog being the favorite child 

I am from cleaning the litter box every Friday  

While Penelope hops around  

From movie nights with lots of popcorn 

To ping pong tournaments 

 

That is where I’m from!!
